Islanders v Maple Leafs 1/7/14

Here are some notes as the New York Islanders (15-22-7) who are on the road getting ready to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs (21-17-5) in NHL action on Tuesday.

LAST GAME

1/6/14: NYI 7 vs. DAL 3
John Tavares recorded a hat trick and his second career five-point game (3g/2a) to lead the Islanders to a 7-3 win over the Dallas Stars at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Monday. Ryan Strome scored his first NHL goal and Calvin de Haan recorded his first NHL point to help the Islanders to their fourth win in five games.
TONIGHT’S MATCHUP
The Islanders kick off a six-game road trip tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Islanders have won three of their last four games in Toronto, with the sole loss coming in the teams’ first matchup this season on Nov. 19.

Assist Streak: Andrew MacDonald is on a five-game assist streak (0g/8a), with multiple assists in three of his last four games. He’s one game shy of tying the team season high, a six-game assist streak set by John Tavares (6a) from Oct. 15-26.
Back-To-Backs: The Islanders close out their 11th set of back-to-back games tonight. They are 5-6-0 on the front end, and 3-5-2 on the back-end of back-to-backs this season. The club will total 16 back-to-back sets this season.
Nabokov Placed on IR: Evgeni Nabokov left Monday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return. Anders Nilsson was called up on an emergency basis after the game.
Special Teams: The Islanders power play has scored eight times in the last four games. The Leafs have a top-5 PP and converted against the Islanders Nov. 19.

The Islanders and Maple Leafs game is set to air on the MSG Plus Network, with face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
